Why is a Brake Fluid Service Essential For Your Vehicle's Safety?
Your vehicle’s braking system is one of its most critical safety components. Most drivers know about brake pads and rotors, but did you know that brake fluid plays an equally important role in keeping you safe? Regular brake fluid services ensure that your brakes perform at their best.
Bonus for October 2025: From October 1–31, you can support our Brakes for Breasts Fundraiser and receive free brake pads for your vehicle! Click here to learn more about Brakes for Breasts and how you can participate this year.
What is Brake Fluid and Why is it Important?
Brake fluid is the lifeblood of your car’s braking system. When you press the brake pedal, the brake fluid transfers the force from the pedal to the brakes themselves, causing your car to slow down or stop. Without clean, fresh brake fluid, this system can fail. This can lead to longer stopping distances or, in worst-case scenarios, brake failure.
Signs You May Need a Brake Fluid Service:
Just like oil or coolant, brake fluid can breakdown over time. Here are some key signs it may be time for a brake fluid service:
- Soft or Spongy Brake Pedal: If your brake pedal feels softer than usual, there could be air or moisture in the brake lines. This could indicate a need for fresh brake fluid.
- Brake Warning Light: If your brake system light comes on, it may mean that your brake fluid is low or needs to be replaced.
- Unresponsive Brakes: If your vehicle’s brakes aren’t responding as quickly or effectively as they should, it’s possible that the brake fluid has become contaminated.
- Burning Smell While Braking: A burning odor after applying the brakes may be a sign that the brake fluid is overheated or needs to be changed.
- Time or Mileage: Manufacturers often recommend a brake fluid flush every 2-3 years or 30,000 miles. This is even if there are no visible signs of brake concerns.
How Does a Brake Fluid Service Work?
During a brake fluid service, our certified technicians will use specialized equipment to drain your old, contaminated brake fluid and replace it with new, high-quality brake fluid. This helps to remove any moisture and air that may have built up in the system. This will help ensure you have maximum braking efficiency!
What Are The Benefits of a Brake Fluid Service?
- Improved Brake Performance: Fresh brake fluid ensures that your brakes respond faster and more efficiently.
- Increased Safety: Regular maintenance of your brake fluid reduces the risk of brake failure, keeping you and your passengers safe.
- Extended Brake System Lifespan: Clean brake fluid helps prevent rust and corrosion in the brake lines, extending the life of your entire brake system.
Coming October 2025: The Brakes for Breasts Fundraiser!
This October marks our sixth year participating in the Brakes for Breasts Fundraiser. Since 2011, independent auto repair shops have helped raise over $2 million! 100% of what we raise goes to Dr. Tuohy's breast cancer research program. In October our customers get free brake pads, then we donate 10% of those brake services to the fundraiser!
At Graham Auto Repair, it’s our goal to ensure you get the best performance and long-term value from your brakes. For this reason, we’ve joined up with O’Reilly Auto Parts again this year. Through our partnership, we’re able to offer you premium-quality brake pads for free! We’re excited to do this while also joining in the fight against breast cancer.
Here's how you can participate:
- Book a brake inspection to find out if it's time for new brakes.
- Receive premium-quality brake pads for free when we replace them in October.
- You'll only pay for labor and any other necessary parts to complete the repair.
- We'll donate 10% of your brake service to the Brakes for Breast Fundraiser!
Offer valid October 1–31, 2025. Cannot be combined with other discounts or coupons.
